Welcome to Quaker Social Action

.

Quaker Social Action was founded in 1867 as a philanthropic response to the appalling poverty in the East End at the time. Now, 137 years later, our 6 projects work with local people, tackling the causes of social, economic and environmental injustice. Our aim is to help people out of poverty by assisting them to realise their full potential as individuals, and play a valuable part in their own community.

The work of QSA can be grouped thematically as 'homes, jobs and enterprise', essential factors in the well being of individuals and communities. We help people without a home to find affordable accomodation. We support people without a job to learn the skills necessary to find meaningful employment whether for themselves, or others. We help people avoid getting into debt by providing good quality furniture and domestic appliances at very low cost.

Our Vision-

QSA's vision is of a society where there is full and real equality of opportunity, belief in the value of diversity and where all people feel there is a place for them to be part of, and contribute to, their community.

Exclusion, from housing, employment and opportunities can have devastating effects upon individuals, families and societies. Prejudice, stigma, lack of self-worth or purpose, can be experienced by those who feel society has no place for them. QSA's response is to develop innovative work and practical projects for these people.
